Cards or cash?
There are two shops on site that sells souvenirs, postcards and sweets, as well as useful items such as batteries, toiletries and maps. They accept Swiss Francs and UK / Euro notes. The shop also accepts all major cards. There are also numerous souvenir shops in Kandersteg village - all will take cards.
Leaders will provide guidance nearer the trip about how they will run a camp bank and whether they would prefer Scouts to bring cash or cards.
Likely to be a difference between how explorers and scouts operate.
Can my Explorer drink in Switzerland?
Whilst the legal drinking age in Switzerland is 16, Explorers are expected to follow UK guidelines and will not be permitted to drink alcohol on the trip.
Can you keep their passports safe?
We will collect passports as they get onto the coach. They will be handed back if required to go through customs and then recollected. Whilst at camp they are stored in the main safe. Scouts are not responsible for them!!
Can my Scout buy a Swiss Army knife
In the past, many of our scouts have used their pocket money to buy an authentic Swiss Army knife from the local shops in Kandersteg, where they can get them etched with their name.
This is perfectly acceptable as long as they hand them in to leaders whilst on camp and get them back just before our return to UK - and stow them securely in their main bag.
Any knife purchased must be a folding knife with a blade less than 3” long and not have a locking mechanism. If they do not conform to these UK regulations we will donate them to the voluntary staff at KISC.
